The house, a short walk to Harvard Square, is accessible to both the local community and greater Boston through the bus and the T system. Staff includes a house manager, live-in staff that alternate responsibilities, and part time weekend staff. The group of ten residents has a variety of disabilities and an age range from the 30s to 40s. Residents are generally very independent, working in the community, and comfortable being at home without staff for brief periods of time during the day. Could be a wonderful opportunity for an older person or a younger person who could benefit from having older mentors who “know the ropes” and who enjoy being helpful.

Newton House

It’s official! On Friday, January 21, 2011, our group became the proud owners of a house in Newton Highlands, MA.

We are a group of families that have joined with Specialized Housing Inc. (SHI) to create an option for supported independent living for our young adults with additional needs. We believe that the house we have chosen offers easy access to public transportation and job opportunities as well as a multitude of options for shopping, fitness, entertainment and social activities.

Apartments available

Specialized Housing supports people—individuals, couples, roommates–who live in rental apartments or in their own houses or condos and need limited services. We provide on-site assistance and emergency on-call service. New apartments can be added at any time.
