A professional development team with years of experience working with families, working with adults with developmental challenges, working with cities and towns to create housing that works.
A Management team that includes senior administrative staff and tradespeople providing the ongoing maintenance and the building emergency calls that are sometimes necessary.
Residents who are committed to each other, to living independently, to contributing to their community through work, community activities and service.
Families who work cooperatively with other families. Families who are supportive of their family members who live in an SHI household. Families who work as a team with staff to promote independence and a full rich life for their family member.
Professional clinical staff who supervise the staff of each living arrangement, provide support to residents and their families and liaison to the wider community.
A dedicated cadre of on-site staff committed to supporting the growth and independence of the residents. Very low staff turnover rate – some staff have worked for Specialized Housing for more that 25 years.

A manual written by and for families of individuals with disabilities. The manual provides basic information on maximizing opportunities for the independence and growth of an adult family member who needs support to flourish in the community.
This little book is chock full of information on planning for independence. It contains an excellent, very thorough section on personal financial evalution and planning, prepared by certified financial planners, the how-to’s of supportive housing, vocational issues for the disabled adult, tips on recreation and social life and some first-person accounts from individuals with disabilities and their families.
